2012’ BH Score: 93/ Tasted: Jan 15, 2015 /Drink: 2024+ /Issue: 57/ ♥ Outstanding
Note: from younger vines Musigny of less than 25 years of age
Tasting note: Deep but translucent ruby. An exceptionally floral nose displays cool and airy aromas that seem to be composed of essence of raspberry and dark currant along with plenty of spice nuances. There is an intense minerality to the medium-bodied flavors that possess fine mid-palate concentration, all wrapped in a saline-inflected and explosive finish that flirts with austerity before rounding off. 2012 is clearly a very powerful vintage for this wine and it is going to require plenty of bottle age.
2009’ BH Score: 93/Tasted: Jan 10, 2012/Drink: 2021+/Issue: 45/♥Outstanding
Note: all from younger vines Musigny
Tasting note: A similar but slightly riper and much spicier nose includes blue berry and plum nuances that precede the more obviously mineral-driven medium-bodied flavors that brim with dry extract. The extremely pure and utterly delicious finish is shaped by the dense but fine tannins that are given added energy by the perfectly integrated acid spine. This is a seriously lovely effort.
2007’ BH Score: 92/Tasted: Jan 30, 2010/Drink: 2018+/Issue: 37/♥Outstanding
Note: all from younger vines Musigny
Tasting note: An expressive and relatively high-toned red and blue berry fruit nose mixed with subtle spice and floral notes offers a clear step up in aromatic complexity while introducing rich, naturally sweet, intense and sappy flavors that deliver impressive precision and a particularly seductive mouth feel as there is a velvety quality to the beautifully long, linear and balanced finish. This is not a dramatic wine in the manner of the two that follow but it quietly delivers excellent quality.
2006’ BH Score: 94/Tasted: Jan 01, 2009/Drink: 2016+/Issue: 33/♥Outstanding
Note: all from younger vines Musigny
Tasting note: A more deeply pitched, riper and notably more complex nose that is restrained, cool and positively gorgeous as seemingly all of the spicy elements it projects are perfectly reflected by the textured, concentrated and naturally sweet big-bodied flavors brimming with minerality and buckets of extract that render the firm tannic spine almost invisible on the direct, frank and driving finish that is almost painfully intense and where the floral character of the nose resurfaces. A flat out brilliant wine for this level and best that de Vogüé has ever made.
