2018’ BH Score: 90? /Tasted: Jan 10, 2021 /Drink: 2035+ /Issue: 81
Tasting note: A suggestion of herbal tea sits atop the very ripe and earthy red berry fruit scented nose. There is excellent verve and intensity to the solidly voluminous if perhaps not quite as concentrated medium weight plus flavors that also terminate in a mocha-infused and firm finish where a touch of dryness emerges. This too may come together in time but here I am slightly less optimistic.

Tasting note: An attractively fresh nose is comprised by notes of essence of various red berries, a plethora of splice elements and even a hint of the sauvage. There is fine intensity and a bit more volume if less minerality to the medium weight plus flavors that are more structured still on the serious, austere and even more backward finish. Patience definitely advised.

Tasting note: This is actually aromatically similar to the Echézeaux if slightly earthier and not quite as spicy. There is by contrast both more volume and more concentration as well to the bold, robust and broad-shouldered flavors that possess a velvety mid-palate that contrasts markedly with the distinctly firm and even mildly rustic and warm finish that is fashioned in a take-no-prisoners style. This is also potentially excellent but while the Ech could be approached young, this is a Clos de Vougeot that will definitely need extended cellaring.
