2018’ Wine Spectator Score: 96 /Region: Grannds Echézeaux/Issue: May 31, 2021
Tasting Note:There is latent power in this red, but also finesse and an underlying reserve. A deep well of black cherry, black currant, violet, graphite and toasty oak flavors permeate its texture. The acidity and tannins are in sync, while the long aftertaste evokes black cherry, spice and mineral elements. Best from 2024 through 2043.
2016’ Wine Spectator Score:95’
The aromas of cherry, licorice, cinnamon and sandalwood are enticing in this red, translating to fruit and spice flavors matched by dense tannins. Still, this is lacy and supple, with a lingering aftertaste of baking spice and macerated cherry. Best from 2024 through 2042.
2016’ BH Score: 90-93 /Tasted: Jan 15, 2018 /Drink: 2028+ /Issue: 69
Note: from a 1.32 ha parcel
Tasting note: Here the wood treatment is no longer subtle and it completely dominates the underlying spice and fruit scents. On the plus side there is excellent concentration to the rich and full-bodied flavors that possess evident power and muscularity while delivering excellent length on the slightly warm finish where the wood sweetens it. This too is youthfully awkward at present and note that my range offers the benefit of the doubt that, like the Ech, this will harmonize if given at least a few years of bottle age first.
2014’ BH Score: 90-92 / Tasted: Jan 15, 2016 / Drink: 2024+ / Issue: 61
Note: from a 1.32 ha parcel
Tasting note: An attractively fresh and layered nose presents a spicy array of red and dark currant that is trimmed in discreet wood and floral wisps. There is excellent punch and delineation to the supple and velvety flavors that terminate in a youthfully austere finish that offers a bit more depth and length. While this is not especially dense there is better concentration compared to that of the Clos de Vougeot or Echézeaux. |
