2021’ BH Score: 89-92/Tasted: Jan 10, 2023/Drink: 2033+/Issue: 89
Note: from two separate parcels, one to the left of the Château in Garenne and another situated below it in Les Chioure
Tasting note: Moderate reduction is sufficient to dominate the nose today. Otherwise, there is almost painful intensity to the sleek medium-bodied flavors that also conclude in a slightly lean and decidedly austere finale. Here too the leanness is exacerbated by the high level of gas so I suspect that this too will better harmonize with time in bottle though with that said, I doubt that it will ever be seductive either.
2020’ BH Score: 93-95 /Tasted: Jan 10, 2022 /Drink: 2040+ /Issue: 85
Note: from two separate parcels, one to the left of the Château in Garenne and another situated below it in Les Chioure
Tasting note: This is also aromatically quite spicy with its combination of ripe and fresh black cherry, leather and warm earth aromas. There is once again excellent density to the big-bodied, equally muscular and quite powerful flavors that possess equally impressive depth and persistence on the very firmly structured and youthfully austere finale. Here too ample patience is advised.
2019’ BH Score: 94/Tasted: Jan 10, 2022/Drink: 2036+/Issue: 85
Note: from two separate parcels, one to the left of the Château in Garenne and another situated below it in Les Chioure
Tasting note: Initially there is a touch of what the Burgundians call bourgeon de cassis (cassis blossom) though aggressive swirling eventually reveals pretty, even airy, aromas display notes of red and dark currant, ample earth and underbrush nuances plus hints of spice and wood. The sleek, delicious and intense medium weight plus flavors possess a caressing but powerful palate impression while exhibiting outstanding length on the youthfully austere and very firm finale.
2018’ BH Score: 92-94 /Tasted: Jan 10, 2020 /Drink: 2035+ /Issue: 77 /♥Sweet spot
Note: from two separate parcels, one to the left of the Château and another situated to the right by the Méo-Camuzet vines
Tasting note: Noticeable wood is present here as well on the discreetly spicy mix of red and dark currant, earth and a touch of forest floor. There is excellent intensity to the larger-scaled and mouthcoating flavors that flash outstanding power on the focused, long and very serious finish. In much the same fashion as the Malconsorts, the supporting tannins are relatively fine-grained which prevents this from seeming unduly rustic.
2017’ BH Score: 91-94 / Tasted: Jan 10, 2019 / Drink: 2032+ / Issue: 73
Note: from two separate parcels, one to the left of the Château and another situated to the right by the Méo-Camuzet vines
Tasting note: A pretty, cool and restrained nose reluctantly offers up notes of red currant, earth, humus and a hint of violet, all of which is trimmed in a discreet application of wood. The vibrant and detailed flavors are not especially concentrated (though they’re certainly not dilute) but I like the punch plus the moderately austere finish is more refined than it typically is. Solid if not sensational quality here.
2014’ Score: 90-93’ Tasted: Jan 15, 2016’ Drink: 2026+ Issue: 61
Note: from two separate parcels, one to the left of the Château and another situated to the right by the Méo-Camuzet vines
Tasting note: This is the first wine to display any appreciable amount of reduction and in this case it’s enough to render the nose unreadable. Like the Malconsorts the medium-bodied flavors are quite muscular though the supporting tannic spine is finer than usual on the lingering, firm and youthfully austere finish.
2013’ Score: 91-94 / Tasted: Jan 15, 2015 / Drink: 2025+ / Issue: 57
Note: from two separate parcels, one to the left of the Château and another situated to the right by the Méo-Camuzet vines
Tasting note: This is also heavily reduced though not lactic. This combines excellent richness with very fine detail that adds to the appeal of the medium weight plus flavors that deliver outstanding length on the moderately austere and beautifully well-balanced finish. While not imposingly structured this will still need all of 12 to 15 years of bottle age to realize its full potential.
