2018’ BH Score: 89-92 /Tasted: Jan 10, 2020 /Drink: 2030+ /Issue: 77
Note: from vines in Les Treux
Tasting note: Very generous if not actually overwhelming wood treatment reveals ample amounts of menthol on the reasonably fresh aromas that combine both red and dark currant with those of spice, tea and sandalwood. There is solid density to the velvety and very seductively textured medium weight flavors that display noticeably warmth on the mocha-inflected finish that is a bit awkward today. Note that my projected range accords the benefit of the doubt that this will better harmonize once it’s bottled.
2018’ BH Score: 90-92/Tasted: Jan 10, 2020/Drink: 2030+/Issue: 77
Note: from vines in Echézeaux du Dessus
Tasting note: More moderate wood influence frames the nicely cool and fresh essence of dark cherry, raspberry and a plethora of spice elements. There is fine volume and slightly better density to the suave and velvety larger-scaled flavors that offer better length and balance though a bit less complexity.
2015’ BH Score: 91-94 / Tasted: Jan 15, 2017 / Drink: 2030+ / Issue: 65
Note: from the climats of Echézeaux du Dessus and Les Treux
Tasting note: This is extremely ripe yet manages to remain fresh with its well-layered nose of wood, mocha, black raspberry liqueur, Asian-style tea and wide range of spice elements. There is a sleek, indeed even satiny mouth feel to the imposingly concentrated big-bodied flavors that are opulent yet focused, all wrapped in a strikingly long, balanced and complex finale. Impressive and worth checking out.
